Well, it's only April of 2023, but the 24 presidential

election is off and running. Joe Biden says he intends to run for re-election, but hasn't made it

official yet. Donald Trump says he is running, even as he faces indictment in New York,

and so are Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, and maybe Governor Ron DeSantis.

This hour, New York Times politics reporter Astead Herndon joins us to talk about the new season of his podcast, The Run Up.

It goes behind closed doors to see what party insiders are thinking and doing before the race is in full swing. That's coming up next after this

it's an off year in politics, no regular elections planned, at least statewide.

But across the country, the 2024 presidential election and the race to control Congress, well, those are well underway.

This week's indictment of Donald Trump kept him in the headlines, while the mayoral election in Chicago and a big race for the state Supreme Court in Wisconsin give clues to what voters are thinking, at least this week.

And, of course, Republican and Democratic Party leaders are busy laying the groundwork for next year.
