My name's Marcus Path on today's episode, the National Weather Service makes changes to their winter advisories.

As winter will be upon some of us sooner than we'd like to admit, and by that I mean me,

the National Weather Service has made some changes for those of you that live in areas with colder climates.

The weather alerts that you may be used to that express the

danger of the cold air during winter will sound a bit different. The National Weather Service

has announced that the terms wind chill watch and wind chill warning will no longer be used

starting this winter season. They will now be replaced with different ways to describe the

dangerous conditions. They have added three new possible alerts, cold weather advisory, extreme cold watch, and extreme cold warning.

The National Weather Service wanted to communicate that the cold could be dangerous with or without the wind.

For the new terms, the National Weather Service explains that a cold weather advisory means be aware.

This advisory will be issued when seasonably cold air temperatures or windshield values, but not extremely cold values,

are expected or occurring. They say be sure you and your loved ones dress appropriately and cover

exposed skin when venturing outdoors. An extreme cold watch means be prepared.

That will be issued when dangerously cold air temperatures or windshield values are possible.

They suggest that you adjust your plans to avoid being outside during the coldest parts of the day.
