The race is on and McLaren got in on the 2022 act by launching its new car, the McLaren

Mercedes MCL 36, in an event at its MTC headquarters in Woking.

But is it striking new car good enough to fight for wins?

And why has it decided to flip F1 orthodoxy on its head by changing to pull rod front suspension

and push-rod rear suspension?

I'm Ed Staw, and joining me to answer those questions and many more are Scott Mitchell and Gary Anderson.

Well, Scott, like me, you were at MTC today for this launch.

We were very positive about what Aston did yesterday.

What did you make of McLaren in comparison?

Yeah, very good.

I'm scratching my head briefly.

I'm drawing a bit of a blank, but I don't think I've ever seen a

car launch before anyone else. That was a nice touch from McLaren to do a media reveal.

So we got to go down to Woking. We saw the car. They did a presentation.

I guess it was useful for them.

It was a bit of a dry run, a rehearsal for the live show later in the evening.

And then obviously we got to speak to the key players, the drivers, team boss Andreas Seidel, the car's technical director, James Key, and Zach Brown, McLaren Racing CEO.

So, yeah, absolutely brilliant.

This one edges Aston Martin by a new narrow nose because there was actually a real physical event and we got to go and see the car.

And I know, Ed, that you're a massive fan of being able to see a car in 3D.

Yeah, it's just nice, particularly when it's a new one to actually sit there and just look at it properly and it does look different when it's there in three dimensions, obviously, and you can just understand how things work a little bit more, or perhaps I should say, I can pretend to convince myself that I understand things a little bit more. but yeah, you just become familiar with a slightly different type of car,
