Summary

While I am away researching further episodes of Murder Mile, here's something to keep you entertained.

Last time in New Blue, I interviewed Paul about the day-to-day duties of a serving Met Police Constable. This time, I had a friendly chat with Sally & John of True Crime Investigators UK, two retired police detectives about life as a detective. In part one, we discussed a detective's day-to-day duties. In part two, we discuss police interviews. And in part three, we discuss the basics of crime scenes.

Friends, welcome. As before, this is not a regular episode of Murdemile. This is part two of

In last week's show, we dived into the day to day basics of being a detective. This week,

1:05.8

we dive into the nitty-gritty of police interviews, as both John and Sally were detectives for many

years, and Sally was also a lawyer. For reference, a duty lawyer or duty solicitor is the legal

1:20.5

representative which any suspect or witness is entitled to, for free, when they're being

1:26.0

interviewed by the police. This is part of your constitutional rights. The duty solicitors are

1:32.4

entirely impartial, and they attend the interview on a purely advisory capacity. If a suspect is

1:38.8

unable to provide their own legal representation. As before, John and Sally are great fun and a delight

1:46.8

to talk to, and as we recorded all three episodes across several hours, I permitted them a teeny

1:53.6

little tea break in between. Which gave us a chance to try and sort out a few technical issues?

Hence the sound is always perfect.

2:16.6

No problem at all. I dread to think what's going on. This is this sounds very weird.

2:24.3

Shall I give you some more time? And yes, I am implying they were up to something rude.

2:36.8

Also worse, because I'm on the waterway. A big fuel boat just went past. Just after we switched off

2:42.7

and the boat rocked violently and threw everything around, so luckily we missed that.

2:48.2

That's useful to remember for later on. Before we started, as John and Sally had just been on

2:54.4

the trip to London, we chatted about where they had visited. And there's all exhibits in
