in the world, I would say they're looking at the Rubicon in the rearview mirror.

Caesar crossed the Rubicon River, Rome's northeastern border.

In 49 BC, his term as governor in Gaul had ended,

and by law he should have disbanded his army before returning to Rome.

Crossing the border with his army intact made him guilty of treason and insurrection. He'd effectively done nothing less than declare war

on Rome. As he splashed across the Rubicon, he's supposed to have said,

Iacta alia est the die is cast, or perhaps, as we would say, here goes nothing.

The dictators, or at least would-be dictators of our time, crossed the metaphorical Rubicon

when they lied about a pandemic.

They marched across the border and into our lives all of

four years ago. Since then, they've lied harder and harder, faster and faster about more and more.
