To get the ball rolling to open the door on this as I've said before but is probably worth saying again. When I first thought of writing a book with this subject matter in mind, my dad was alive.

But by the time I was actually on the point of writing anything down, rather than just thinking about it, My dad had died and so I wrote the book in the aftermath of losing

my dad and inevitably that frame of mind is shot through the piece because he was always

on my mind in relation to every story because he had

recently himself become one of the departed and the first story, as it happens, in the book, is one that is touched by the relationship between a father and sons.
