I recently spoke to director Neil Jordan at the Toronto Film Festival, where he was there to talk about his new film with Jody Foster, The Brave One.

His previous films include End of the Affair, The Butcher Boy, and of course The Crying Game.

Tell us what the movie's about.

The movie is about somebody who lives in a contemporary city, New York City now, who has, you know, a comfortable life who seems to be heading towards a beautiful future, and who is assaulted one night, and her whole world is turned upside down.

And she ends up as a victim of this kind of really quite graphic assault.

Her boyfriend is dead and she recovers and finds all this out.

And she feels unsafe.

She can't even walk out the door.

She finds us have a gun.

And a series of events happen to her and she goes in this trail of revenge.

It stars Jodie Foster and it was a movie that you didn't generate.

It came to you.

No, I didn't generate it.

But it's a generic film, and I don't mean that in a bad sense.

I mean, the genre is great.

You know, genre is kind of a weapon for filmmakers.

It's just I haven't often used that weapon.

But it's quite similar to the very first movie I made.

It was called Angel, which was, you know, a revenge story again, you know.
