So, Hey everybody it's Matt. This is the 10 minute Bible hour podcast and there's that saying you know the saying

0:24.2

about being the change that you want to see in the world and it's a good saying it sounded like I was

0:29.8

being snarky I'm not being snarky It's a good saying because I mean it fits with the

0:33.7

teachings of Jesus, right? All that stuff about the measure you use on others that will

0:38.0

be used unto you and the golden rule and this stuff's in the sermon on the mount. Those are

0:41.7

foundational kingdom values of Jesus.

0:45.0

That's good stuff and it's good stuff that is leaked out into the larger culture.

One of the many ways that subtly, the brilliant stuff from the Bible has seeped out into the larger

0:57.1

consciousness and affected the world in very good ways. What I like about the be

1:01.6

the change you want to see in the world idea is that

1:04.9

you start with yourself. I mean you think about your own heart and implicit in that is the idea that you

1:10.7

have the capacity to do screwed up stuff but also the capacity to do beautiful

1:15.0

and redemptive stuff and so I like the way it starts small instead of always

1:20.1

worrying about slaying the dragons without you worry about

1:23.4

slaying the dragons within. And the other impulse that I like about that saying

1:27.4

very much is the pragmatic side because it's very hard to change the world just from a practical get things done

1:35.2

how many hours are there in the day kind of perspective it's very difficult to go and

1:41.2

bring about gigantic sweeping change globally.

1:45.0

And so sometimes it makes sense to take that in smaller chunks and by sometimes I mean almost all the time it makes sense to take that in smaller chunks.

1:54.5

And so when you start close to home, sometimes you might observe a big giant problem that's a long way off.

2:00.1

And maybe the best solution would be to go and bring about gigantic change.

2:06.5

Get a bunch of people with guns, get an army, make a coalition, go and fight great wars,
