Today, Michael speaks with Dr. David Horton. David is a retired oncologist whose beloved wife and soulmate of 32 years, DeeDee, passed away from an inoperable brain tumor, plunging him into a profound grief that reshaped his outlook on life. At the time of DeeDee’s passing, she was finalizing edits on her inspired novel, Layer Upon Layer. David decided to finish and publish her book, experiencing insights that transformed his understanding of life, grief, and resilience while championing DeeDee’s legacy and message of women’s empowerment.
During Michael and David’s conversation, they discuss:
-David’s emotional journey after DeeDee’s passing and the spiritual insights he gained, particularly through observing her grace in dying
-How gratitude, community, and unexpected support helped David survive and evolve through prolonged grief
-How David still feels DeeDee, and the continued presence of departed loved ones, spiritual energy, and the eternality of the soul
-The process of finishing and publishing DeeDee’s novel, Layer Upon Layer, while preserving her vision and voice
-Layer Upon Layer’s themes around persistent cultural gender roles, social expectations, and mentorship, loosely based on DeeDee’s life and the lessons and insights she gleaned from her experiences
-How awareness and empathy can heal gender-based disconnects and support relational evolution
-Examples of subconscious social cues and how greater awareness can bridge misunderstandings in relationships
-Embracing conscious dialogue and inner change for collective healing, and more.
Finally, Michael leads a guided meditation focused on waking up from the intoxicating sleep of separation from the Infinite.
