Since time immemorial, the Ochete Shakoi have relied upon oral stories, histories, songs,

and traditions to sustain da-kota, la-kota, and Nakota cultures, languages and values.

These important cultural practices will persist today in both oral and written forms, Oral stories and the printed stories that have emerged from them are unique to each family and community.

As a result, there are many variations of these oral stories in the Lakota way.
