It's a great honor to have this morning, Natan Sharanski joining us, and I will be completely

introduce him and get out of the way and let him conduct this class.

You've read a good chunk of his book on identity.

I read his book in 19 when it came out in America, the first book, Fear No Evil in 1988,

when he came out to the United States.

It made the impact on me, not on the

disease no introduction, obviously very courageous. I know he likes to be introduced as a

convicted criminal, but very courageous dissident in the Soviet Union released in

1986, came right away to Jerusalem. I remember meeting with his wife when I was working, came to Washington, worked in the administration

just before you were released, and then after you were released, and then the Vice President

Quayle when he came to visit in the late 80s and early 90s, served in the Israeli government,

obviously now heads of the Jewish agency, wrote two very important books, a book, Defending Democracy, and the book on identity as key to defending democracy. So it's extremely relevant to our course. But even if we're totally irrelevant to our course, it would be worth hearing from Natanz Sharansky. So we look forward to hearing from him. And you have as much time as you want. We usually take a break about halfway through,

but it's totally up to you.
