Summary

Isaac Hale didn't like Jo when him and Emma began courting. Luckily for Jo, Hale's heart softened and allowed Jo to move in to the farm once "persecution" in New York became too much to bear. We cover two days in this travel log because the majority of them were spent driving. The rest of the log includes my musing on an interview I conducted with a professor at Boston University about Joseph Smith's possible entheogen use.

It was pretty much just driving these past two days.

But there was one exception to that.

I went to, on the 4th, I went to the Isaac Hale and Emma and Joseph Smith Farm, which is just in what is used to be Harmony, Pennsylvania.

least. This is where Joseph courted Emma when he was hired by Josiah Stowell.

0:56.7

And, uh, you know, and for treasure digging to find the, the silver treasure mine on the banks of

the Susquehanna River. And it is right on the banks of the river. It's incredible. So, um,

1:09.7

that's where Joseph and Emma met each other and they began

1:12.6

courting back and forth. And eventually they eloped up to South Bainbridge, which is just

1:18.9

across the New York state line from them, from where they were living in Pennsylvania.

1:24.5

So it's a place that's rife with important Mormon history because they, Joseph and Martin

1:31.9

Harris translated a big chunk of the Book of Mormon, well, wrote a big chunk of the Book of

1:37.4

Mormon to the 116 pages of Lehigh.

1:40.0

And they were quote unquote lost.

1:42.9

Now, I'm of the opinion that Martin Harris was probably just hiding them and testing out Joe the way that he had tested him before with the searstone.

1:51.9

You know, at one point he swapped out the rock that Joseph was using, you know, precious.
