Hi, crime junkies. I'm your host Ashley Flowers, and this is a little bit different, because

0:06.8

I'm going to tell you a story I already told you, but kind of in a completely different

0:12.0

way. We recently released an episode about the mysterious death of Praveen Varghese.

0:18.7

After we release the episode, members of our team at Audia Chug were actually fortunate

0:23.0

enough to connect with Praveen's amazing mother and champion, Lovely. And after learning

0:28.2

about her experience and hearing her story in her words, we felt that we needed to rework

0:34.0

and re-release this episode in order to tell a more complete version of Praveen's story.

0:40.2

The reason we want to make these changes is because the context of what Lovely experienced

0:44.8

0:58.7

continue to fight for her son in a country that she dreamed of moving to as a child.

1:04.3

during our conversations with her. From the very beginning, she noticed red flags that

1:14.0

just seemed to be glossed over, and her concerns were completely ignored. And that changed

1:20.5

her. And in turn, she found her voice. A voice that many people within the justice system

1:26.2

have attempted to silence, but she continues to use it to this day to advocate for her son

1:31.2

and those who may have experienced similar tragedies. So with all of that being said, this

1:37.1

is the story of Praveen Vargis.

2:07.1

It's about 11 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, February 13, 2014, and a college student named

2:18.4

Ashley Thomas is just starting to wake up. He's a bit groggy since he was out late the

2:23.7

night before. He'd gone to a party and then went to work. So it takes him a little while
