Summary

I've recently started using the Manfrotto BeFree Live as part of my travel vlogging camera setup. I've used Manfrotto tripods for years but I've never had one that travelled well - until now. The BeFree Live folds down extremely well - you can fit it easily as a carry-on for airlines, but it still has the height and durability to use in standard photography applications. If you want one of the best tripod options available for travel and vlogging, this is it. So in this video I want to talk a little bit about my travel setup because this is something that has evolved quite a bit over the last year.

0:06.5

Now most of you follow the show know that I've spent about half the year traveling filming artist series and even last week I did a behind the scenes video where I took you

0:13.7

along and showed you how I photographed the supermoon. Now that shoot in

0:17.0

particular was very specific in what I was trying to get. I knew I needed to do a

0:21.5

time lapse and I wanted to get some still shots as well.

0:24.1

So I traveled really light. Now I am a big proponent of bringing as much gear as you need to get the

0:29.7

job done, but as little as you can get by with and there's a number reasons for that one

0:34.1

it gets fidgety and fiddly when you have too much stuff with you and two it

0:37.3

becomes cumbersome because you've got to carry it and if you're traveling and

0:40.0

you're flying on an airline you're gonna need to check it and that becomes a problem too. Now when I went

0:44.6

and shot the moon I used my Sony A6300 I used a Canon FD 300

0:49.5

300 millimeter telephoto lens and my Manfredo B Free Live Tripod. And Tripods have been a big

0:56.4

sticking point for me because I feel like, you know, the way that technology has progressed

1:01.2

and the way photography is gone and that you can do videos

1:04.2

and stills out of a camera that's this size or even smaller sometimes. Finding a

1:09.2

tripod that's going to work for that has been probably my biggest challenge and I did a video gosh last year

1:15.0

when right before I started doing artist series where I talked about what I was going to bring on the

1:18.4

road and I showed you guys my big pelican case and all my stuff that goes in there. Well the pelican case if you're flying you've got to check that and depending on the airline it's 50 or 60

1:27.6

dollars which gets old after a while then you got to lug it around town you got to get it in and out of taxi. You got to get it in and

1:33.1

out of the hotel or wherever you're staying. And it's just kind of a drag. Now the

1:37.2

tripods that I've used on that I love, they're made by Manfroto as

1:40.4

well and I've had both, they're both the same tripod tripod they number all the tripods and I think they're 3001 BNs or something like that I'm using one of them that's holding this camera right now
