Summary

Ravi takes a closer look at President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter, and discusses why the move undermines the president's commitment to integrity, trust, and fairness. He then turns to incoming President Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Kash Patel as FBI Director and unpacks how the appointment could impact the rule of law and institutional norms. Finally, Ravi addresses the major challenges facing Democrats and outlines a bold, transformative vision for the party as it seeks to reshape its future. Welcome to The Lost Debata Show for Politically Ecclectics. I'm Robbie Gupta. And in this episode,

0:05.6

I'm just going to empty my notebook and talk about a couple of items that I know a lot of you are thinking about right now.

0:14.0

Let's start with this Hunter Biden pardon. So getting a lot of message from you, just asking like,

0:20.3

what do I think of this pardon?

0:21.9

Well, let me be as clear as possible.

0:23.7

I think this is really bad for a couple of reasons.

0:27.7

Number one, Biden repeatedly ruled out pardoning Hunter when he was running for president.

0:33.0

He was very clear about that.

0:34.4

Members of his staff were really clear about that.

0:36.4

So when it was in his electoral

0:39.4

interest, he made a promise to the American public. And now he is reneging on that promise. And there

0:47.9

haven't been any facts that have changed on the ground. If he, for instance, were to say, you know what, I couldn't have anticipated

0:56.4

somebody like Cash Patel being the FBI director or Pam Bondi as the head of the DOJ, and there

1:02.6

are statements that those people have made that may be very concerned for Hunter Biden, maybe I would

1:07.6

take it seriously. But he hasn't really cited any facts on the ground that have

1:12.3

changed, and he repeatedly said that as a matter of principle, he would defer to the justice

1:16.6

system. He talked about how he was appointing a Trump-appointed former U.S. attorney from Delaware

1:24.7

to lead the investigation and let them do their work.

1:28.5

And it just shows that, although I think the gold medal in politics for lying goes to Trump,

1:35.2

I would give the silver medal here to Biden, not because the volume of lies in anywhere

1:41.3

approaches Trump, but I do think that there were two very high profile,

1:45.6

memorable, important lies at the center of Biden's public life over the past year and beyond.
