0:08.5	regret that the legendary and astounding scientist E.O. Wilson had passed away.
0:18.0	And so I wanted to take a few minutes to pay homage to the great man that he was.
0:26.0	He's actually been incredibly influential
0:28.7	in my own work, but I wanted to give you
0:32.2	a bit of a synopsis of some of the key
0:35.0	accomplishments. There are too many to recount here, but I'll just discuss a few.
0:41.0	So I guess the first thing that I'll say is that when you talk
0:45.5	about evolutionary psychology which is basically the application of evolutionary biology and
0:52.0	evolutionary principles to the study of the human mind.
0:55.6	There are other fields within the evolutionary
0:58.4	behavioral sciences where you study human behavior
1:01.7	from an evolutionary
1:02.6	land. So there is Darwinian anthropology, there is mimetics, there is
1:06.8	behavioral ecology, there is ethology, and there is sociobiology.
1:12.0	Sociology is the study of the biological basis of social behavior.
1:18.0	And so in 1975 I tried to go through my personal library
1:22.0	and I'm certain that I missed several other books by E. Wilson.
1:26.0	This absolute masterpiece, 1975, Social Biology by E.O. Wilson is a true Bible because it goes through an explanation of how you
1:38.4	study social behavior from, as I said, a biological basis.
1:43.2	Now that book became unbelievably controversial because in the last chapter, and I think it was
1:48.4	chapter 26, he applies the sociobiological framework to study human behavior and hence this is
