Summary

In this edition of The ReidOut, Joy Reid covers a federal judge ruling that the Trump White House has violated his order to restore frozen federal funding—raising a big what-if: What if Donald Trump simply ignored that judge and other courts that tell him his actions are illegal? We also revisit Trump's promise to lower grocery prices, when he said, “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.” But they are still rising--and apparently he does not want to talk about it anymore. Next, Trump also took an expensive mini-vacation to the Super Bowl, making history as the first president to attend the game in person. Taxpayers footed the bill, including the cost of Air Force One and security for his entourage. We have more on what many see as the waste of this trip. Plus, Elon Musk’s "DOGE" gang has infiltrated and effectively shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency designed to protect consumers from predatory bankers and credit card companies. Our financial expert guest discusses how this may impact you. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.

Thank you and all for joining us tonight. We have a lot to get to in the next hour of the readout,

0:05.1

including a federal judge ruling that the Trump White House has violated his order to restore

0:10.5

frozen federal funding, raising a big what if. What if Donald Trump just decided to, you know,

0:16.4

just ignore that judge and other courts that tell him his actions are illegal. And Donald Trump promised to lower grocery prices, he said, and I quote,

0:24.3

when I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on day one.

0:28.8

But they're still rising and he suddenly doesn't want to talk about it anymore.

0:33.0

But we begin tonight with waste, fraud, and abuse.

0:36.1

First, the waste.

0:37.2

The interwebs are buzzing over the very

0:38.9

expensive New Orleans mini vacay co-president Donald Trump took to the Super Bowl yesterday. And yes,

0:46.0

we will be discussing how epic and woke it was later in the show. Trump became the first

0:51.1

commander-in-chief to attend a game in person, something he took great public pride in, and that you paid for, since it cost money to gas up Air Force One and fill it with Trump's family and political friends, which included House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was from Louisiana and maybe could have blown himself.

1:08.1

But, you know, more fun to ride on the taxpayer dime, which also includes the

1:12.4

700 federal employees, secret service agents, and support teams who had to be added even before

1:18.5

Trump arrived to secure the Superdome and guard the president and his party. What happened to

1:23.9

reducing government spending? Before the game, Trump greeted players from the Kansas City Chiefs and predicted they would snag a three-peat victory, after which they promptly lost badly.

1:35.3

With Patrick Mahomes getting sacked so many times, it was almost as if Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville didn't entirely make up the idea that he was the one who scouted him and

1:45.1

actually coached him in the entire chief's offensive line too. They were that bad. So that's the

1:51.2

waste. Moving on to the fraud and abuse. Late last week, Elon Musk's doge gang infiltrated and

1:59.0

ostensibly shut down another real federal agency, the Consumer

2:03.2

Financial Protection Bureau, which protects you, the ordinary consumer from predatory

2:07.3

bankers and credit card companies, installing Project 25 Architect and head of the Office of
