Summary

Think you know music? Hit Parade, the pop-chart history podcast from Slate, is rolling out a new feature. Every month, the show will test a listener contestant in a special mini episode called The Bridge. Host Chris Molanphy will invite one person onto the show to play some music trivia, and contestants have the opportunity to turn the tables on him: They’ll get a chance to try to stump Molanphy, a music journalist for the last 25 years, with their own trivia question. If you want to play along at home and quiz yourself, listen to the first episode of The Bridge here. If you’d like to be a contestant on an upcoming show, sign up for a Slate Plus membership, and then enter as a contestant here. You can also enter if you’re already a Slate Plus member. 1:01.1

Our feedback was generally positive, which I think reflects how affectionate many of us are toward Madonna, all these decades later.

1:16.0

hits? Where was her remake of American Pie or her James Bond theme to Die Another Day?

1:22.0

First off, I do not regret leaving off that

1:25.1

misbgotten remake of American Pie, and I suspect even Madge herself wants to

1:30.4

forget that movie The next best thing.

1:34.0

But the challenge with an artist, frankly a pop legend, like Madonna, is knowing what

1:39.6

to leave out.

1:41.1

That's why I made that comparison to the Beatles in that episode.

1:44.4

Madonna is at that level, at least in terms of depth of catalog.

1:49.2

In fact, Madonna has recorded more albums than the Fab 4 did, and she has lasted as a recording artist

1:56.8

three to four times longer than they did as a group.
