Hi, Crime junkies. I'm your host Ashley Flowers, and I'm Britt.

And today I want to tell you all about a woman whose life in a small rust belt town

0:10.1

was brutally stolen from her just as she was working to make positive changes and build

0:15.8

a better future for her and her daughter. But what at first seemed like a straightforward

0:21.5

murder investigation turned into so much more with allegations swirling while a killer

0:29.8

remained on the loose. This is the story of Heather Bogle.

1:00.8

On April 9, 2015 in Clyde, Ohio, which is this any bitty town about an hour to like an hour

1:13.1

and a half west of Cleveland, this woman named Renee McLaughlin gets some odd news. Her grand

1:20.2

daughter Mackenzie hasn't been picked up from school. Now usually Mackenzie's mom Heather,

1:25.2

who is Renee's daughter, is the one to pick her up, but today for whatever reason Heather

1:42.4

and then again at 3.13am after she didn't get an answer. At the time, Renee didn't think it was

1:48.6

too weird for Heather not to respond, but now with no one going to pick up Mackenzie from school,

1:54.4

it just doesn't sit right. So why was Renee texting Heather so early? Yeah, it's an odd time.

2:00.6

It kind of stood out to me too, but according to Craig Schoep's article for the news messenger,

2:05.4

Heather actually works the night shift doing material handling at the whirlpool plant

2:10.7

there in Clyde. So she was pretty likely to be awake at that hour. It's not like she was just

2:15.4

texting her in the middle of the night when most of us would be sleeping. Right, and even if Heather

2:19.3

wasn't at work, she would probably still be sticking with that schedule just to keep her body

2:23.4

in that mode. Right, right. So now Renee is trying to get a hold of Heather again, really hoping for

2:29.8

an answer. She sends Heather a message at 2.33pm basically asking, hey, who is supposed to get Mackenzie
