Smartphone shipments in China were down last quarter.

That is the latest from IDC.

This represented the first contraction after six consecutive quarters of growth, according to the firm.

Only one OEM showed growth in China for the second quarter of 2025, and it was not Apple.

For the market as a whole, two factors are cited as contributing to the decline.

An analyst with the firm points to rollout disruptions in the government subsidy program,

and shocker economic uncertainty between China and the U.S.

On the subsidy program, no big deal.

IDC expects a gradual resumption where those are concerned.

On the international economic front,

IDC says despite the recent U.S.-China trade truce,

the broader economic environment presents ongoing challenges with consumer confidence

remaining subdued. This suggests that a significant uptick in smartphone demand is unlikely

in the immediate term, and the market will navigate a more complex landscape in the second
