1:05.1	One of the few things voters can agree on these days is that American democracy is in a perilous position.
1:10.8	In our last NBC news poll,
1:12.0	threats to democracy was the top issue for voters this midterm this year, ranked higher than the economy,
1:17.0	as well as abortion, which also is an issue that has been tied to the health of our democracy,
1:21.7	given the political turmoil that produced this conservative Supreme Court that overturned Roe. And it is against this backdrop
1:29.8	that President Biden plans to speak in prime time tonight from the cradle of our democracy,
1:34.8	Independence Hall, and Philadelphia. It's less than 10 weeks from the midterms as Democrats look to
1:39.5	build on recent political momentum. This isn't being billed as a campaign speech by the White House,
1:44.4	but it certainly feels like one, and it will invoke the core theme of Biden's presidential
1:48.7	campaign, the battle for the soul of the nation, which also happens to now be a core theme of
1:54.3	the Democratic midterm campaign in the wake of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe.
1:59.5	So tonight, the president is expected to go on
2:01.9	the attack again, as he has recently, by focusing on a group of Republicans he believes is corrupting
2:08.2	the nation's soul and the other Republican Party as we knew it. Election deniers and, of course,
