Any hopes of tamping down tensions between the countries is also diminishing.

The State Department announced today that Secretary Blinken will not be visiting China next week.

It was a planned visit. All of this cancellation has to do with the suspected Chinese spy balloon that has been spotted over the continental United States.

Moments ago, Secretary Blinken, alongside his South Korean counterpart, discussed the situation.

In my call today with Director Wang Yi, I made clear that the presence of this surveillance balloon in U.S. airspace is a clear violation of U.S. sovereignty and international law.
