0:08.0	but has recently been overshadowed by conflicts in places like Yemen, Syria, and Venezuela.
0:12.0	What I'm talking about is the civil war in Libya.
0:14.4	And while Libya may only be home to a little over 6 million people,
0:17.2	it is the fourth biggest country in Africa by size,
0:19.4	and it has the largest oil reserves on the continent.
0:21.8	And this nation isn't only important because of the natural resources, but also
0:24.8	because of its geographic location.
0:26.5	Lydia sits right on the southern edge of the Mediterranean Sea, making one of the primary
0:30.0	gateways to Europe for African and Middle Eastern migrants fleeing violence, poverty,
0:33.6	and government suppression in their home country. So much like we've seen with
0:36.4	Syria, what happens in Libya often spills over its borders. But in order to fully
0:39.8	understand the conflict that's going on in the nation today, We're going to have to go back to February 2011,
0:44.0	the height of the Arab Spring.
0:45.6	You may remember that this was a pivotal month
0:47.3	for many countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
0:49.6	Protest movements against authoritarian leaders
0:51.4	that erupted across the region, forcing out leaders like
0:53.4	Ben Ali and Tunisia and Hosini Mubarak in Egypt who had been in power for decades.
