today in the Marshall proeau podcast we are going to celebrate the 4th of july by going back to

portland cart indy car series 1997 the closest cart road race in the history of forever won by Pac-West's Mark Blundell chased home

losing by a nanosecond Gilles de Ferrin of Walker Racing and I mean even down to third

place with Raoul Boiselle. This was the photo of photo finishes. That's what we get to hear.

The sounds of these amazing vehicles, 2.65-liter turbocharged, single-turbo V8s. These are engines

provided by Mercedes-Benz through Ilmore, won the Manufacturers' Championship that year.

Honda is there. Boy, those are some fierce motors. Ford Cosworth, and then Toyota as well, early into their IndyCar career.

I just wanted to present this for you. Hopefully it's not too late to throw on your

backyard cookout or whatever you might be doing if you're just driving around celebrating America

in your pickup truck and got the stereo cranked. Heck, this is going to be good throughout

the rest of the weekend. These motors sound amazing.

The sound capture here from Portland 97 done by my friend Brad Bernstein who handed over

the cassette tapes that they originally taken on.

This one in particular I love because around that beautiful short, what is it, 1.9 mile road course or so,

just some beautiful sound captures of cars accelerating away, doing flybys, you name it.
