Summary

The excitement I felt renting this movie was quickly replaced by rage as I weathered its 1 hour and 56 minutes of monotone dialogue. The confused, underdeveloped characters appear to have been conjured as mere tools for condescension and finger wagging at anyone who places value on money as an element of a successful relationship. Despite being marketed as a romcom, this movie is in no way a romcom. Instead, it seems to fancy itself a chiding think piece on the stance that real love means a man's money, income, and savings doesn't matter. As the main character, Lucy, continually tells a man she's dating that he can do so much better...I found myself asking out loud several times how a woman wrote this. If you look at this movie from the broke character's perspective, it is indeed a feel good story. From anyone else's, it's a nightmare.

The previews for this movie show Dakota Johnson flirt, flirt, flirting with Pedro Pascal. He's supposed to be a

so he's working catering jobs, walking up to her, giving her a beer and a Coke because she's so quirky and he remembers her so

well. So it's understood from the previews going in. We are going to see a woman who's going to have

1:02.3

to decide between a man with means, many, many means, and a man without. I thought, hey,

1:08.9

should I go to a movie theater and see this? I was like, nah,

1:11.5

nah. I'll wait for it to be, you know, something I can rent. So I ignored all of the reviews. I just did not even look when people were talking about this movie. Then finally it comes out to rent. I sit on my couch under a little blanket. I kick my little feet. I'm so excited to watch this. My husband sit next to me. He's half paying attention, half working on a project, and I'm like,

I am so excited to watch this. My husband sit next to me. He's half

get started, and this thing's going to be full of spoilers, and I don't care because I'm saving you

from a terrible journey anyway.
