You want to motivate somebody who's under you, you want to motivate a disciple, you want to motivate

a person that you're trying to build up in the faith, then prove to them that the most important

thing to you is their spiritual blessedness.

When you care about someone, how do you show it? In other words, how do you love your spouse and children, your friends and your neighbors, your coworkers, even strangers?

Well today, John MacArthur looks at the compassionate loving words of the Apostle Paul as he wrote to Timothy.

You're going to see what motivated Paul and what he wanted for his young disciple

and how you can practice the same biblical love. So if you have your Bible handy, follow along in

2 Timothy chapter 1 as John continues his study titled Unashamed with six

motivations for you to live fearlessly for Christ.

Versus one to five is a wonderful motivation passage to Timothy.

In fact, it's wonderful for all of us you're going to see how

practical it is. Here is how to motivate a spiritual son. You're

discipling your children, you're discipling someone in the faith in Christ,

you're teaching someone, you're leading someone

toward maturity in Jesus Christ, here are the elements that motivate them.

And they're not explicitly mentioned here, They're implicitly in the text of what Paul says,

but they're so rich and I think so easily visible

as to almost jump off the page

to enhance our understanding. Number one, if Timothy is going

to respond he has to be motivated, right? That's the assumption. The first motivation

is authority. Timothy will be motivated because he gets these things from someone who's commanding him.
