So I'd like to talk to you on Juan's suggestion and urging about mortification.

So mortification is a harsh word.

It means to make dead, to kill.

And our Lord tells us we have to cut off our hand if it causes us a sin or tear out our

which are on the earth and then he lists though what those things are, fornication, anger, indignation, blasphemy.

So the first and essential thing that we must put to death is any tendency to sin, any desire to commit sin.

We all have those in us because of virginal sin,

So mortification is necessary for salvation,

in that sense that you have desires which it's painful sometimes

in a way or at least difficult to repress and check,
