Our top stories. An Israeli air strike on Beirut

killed a senior Hezbollah commander according to the Israel Defence Forces.

It was the third time this week that the IDF hit the Lebanese capital.

Israeli attacks on southern and eastern Lebanon have killed at least 564 people, including women and children, and wounded 1,850 more.

According to Lebanon's health ministry.

The strikes have heightened fears of an all-out war between Israel and the Iran-backed Shia militia.

Thousands of people have fled southern Lebanon to escape the bombardment.

In a quote message for the people of Lebanon posted on X,

Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's Prime Minister, said that his country's war was with Hezbollah, not civilians.

Lebanon's health minister told the BBC that the victims were, quote,

not the competence the Israelis claim they are.

Israel's envoy to the UN said his country was, quote,

not eager to start any ground invasion anywhere.

His comments followed warnings from world leaders

at the UN General Assembly in New York,

including President Joe Biden,
