Good evening, everybody, and welcome into the Monday smash right here on Warchant TV.

He's Irish Ophel managing editor of Warchant.com my name is tom lang and we speak to

0:23.4

you on monday of a college football game week holla freaking luya ira we are here i feel like every

0:32.3

conversation i have with somebody this week starts with that like people so when are they playing

0:36.9

who's playing are there any decent games and i'm'm like, I don't, does it matter? They're playing college football that will be live, not games from last season or five years ago. It'll be live college football games. Be excited. You know, and Farmageddon is the name of the game. I think that's a fantastic way to brand Iowa State and Kansas State. I think that will actually increase the ratings. The fact that they just gave it a cool, catchy name like Farmergene. It'll be kicking off at noon on Saturday. It'll bring us back to the, you know, at least the pregame part of the trip to Ireland. I was going to say, just think about the Guinness. Just think about the Guinness instead of the PTSD of that final drive of having a tackle to be made just before they walked it off with a kick that maybe would have put them out of field goal range, all those little things. They go by the wayside because we get to watch college football again. And I know that you believed it too, Ireland Guinness is just different in Ireland. Not just believe it. Like, I'm offended now when I get Guinness here. And, you know, it's funny because I used to always complain about Guinness. And Jeff would be like, oh, it's delicious, delicious. Then we had it in Ireland. It was like, oh, my, this is a whole different world. And then you come back here. Jeff says there's some secrets to get it in the states that are better, but I have not had any luck. It's been pretty gross when I've had to hear. Well, I know that there's a fantastic brewery in Thomasville that you promote on Tuesdays that people can go find if they're just Jones and for a nice craft beer. You'll hear about that tomorrow on Seminole headlines to Velo. and you'll hear about a lot of great things tonight as Florida State pushes forward from,

1:44.4

it's kind of a nuanced thing here, Ira, just terminology, technical, but from fall camp, preseason camp, into Alabama prep. That transition is going to occur this week. It sounds like maybe as early as tomorrow that they're going to flip the script towards Alabama prep. That's what Mike Norvell said on Saturday night. Yeah, it's one of those

2:22.8

things that, you know, as a sports writer, a journalist or a media member, you know, we like to

2:29.2

kind of clarify what it is because a lot of times we'll talk about the whole thing as preseason

2:34.0

camp, basically going

2:35.8

back to you know july 30th all the way up to the friday before the Alabama game and the reality is camp is

2:42.3

the part before they put in the game plan and that basically is ending now and then you know in a normal

2:49.1

week in a normal season you'd start game planning the week of the, but they're actually, they're going to be ahead of it because it's a season opener and because it's Alabama. So they'll get a good almost nearly two weeks of game prep. Camp will end a little bit earlier, and we'll move into that. But yeah, it's still practice. It's still football. It's still the same activity out there. But they'll actually be putting in schemes, game planning. Hey, you need to know about this defensive end number so and so because this is what he does in this situation. All that stuff is about to start. Yeah, that's when they distribute the black and white jerseys for scout team as well. Some kids are furious. They're working with the scout team instead of working with the ones and the twos. That's what's coming up at practice. We'll be hearing about that on Warchant.com, Warchant TV in the weeks to come. Can I give a little inside baseball on that real quick? Sure. So the way Floresate always did it and most teams do it from everything I've seen,

3:41.9

is the scout team guys and the scout team guys are the ones who don't practice the game plan.

3:46.9

So they're, you know, if the defensive players, it's usually third teamers and walk-ons.

3:51.7

And those guys, they don't need necessarily the game plan.

3:55.0

So they work on the scout team to give a look to the offense. So Floresa's offense will go up against the defense, a similar defense to what they're going to see against Alabama. And that will be manned by those backup players. And a lot of schools in Florida State traditionally did it, they would just put on those penny jerseys. They'd have, they come to practice in their normal jersey,

4:31.1

but then they would put on a penny that let everybody know they're on the scout team. And then they could take it off when they go do other drills. Like they didn't have to wear it the whole time. Mike Norvell makes those guys wear a whole different scout team jersey. And like you said, it's a black jersey and they have to wear it the whole practice. And as you said, there are plenty of guys, including a lot of guys who are no longer here. I would think Julian Armella is probably that kind of guy. The guys that came in with a lot of fanfare, but then were put on the scout team. They were not big fans of it. So it's kind of a right of passage. It's not something that those guys are real fired up about, but that's happening too, like you said. This is also something I don't miss. Now, you were there for every moment of every practice that we were allowed into for all these years that Mike Norville had the policy. But when this happened, the scout team jerseys matched the numbers of the opponent. So you had to decipher who the Florida state player actually was,

5:05.8

not wearing his own number, but an Alabama number or whatever, insert opponent here. That was

5:11.4

always a nightmare the first couple of days. And we don't have to do that anymore, man. Isn't that nice?

5:16.1

Exactly. Mike Norville was looking out for us. That's what he was doing.

5:20.1

So we're going to. if it's funny on that

5:21.3

real quick is sometimes the the coaches would know because i would talk to sometimes i'd talk to
