Some passages of scripture are just the best. It's not to say that some scripture is more inspired

episode. Hey, friends, welcome back. We are in Psalm 23 today. And I don't know that there's a more

familiar chapter in the entire Bible than Psalm 23. Entire books have been written about this one

Psalm. And I can't even imagine how many messages have been preached from this one Psalm. And I can't

even tell you how many times I have quoted this one Psalmsalm. So many funerals I've done over the

years. I have read this psalm at hospital beds. I've preached this psalm at funeral homes and

graveside services. I just have meditated upon this psalm. There's just so much here.

And for good reason.

Now, a couple things.

First of all, there's no way that I'm going to be able to do justice to this Psalm.

We could spend weeks and weeks and weeks right here and never exhaust the truths that are contained. I mean, just the verb tenses. And I mean, you could

just look at every single little word. And you can do that with all the Bible, obviously,

but this Psalm especially. So please be kind to me because there's much that I'm not going to say and you're going to think,

well, Kurt didn't say this or he should have said that or I learned this. And that's wonderful.

I do think there's value sometimes in just reading through the Psalm and getting the kind of the general gist, maybe not the 30,000 foot view,

but not the three foot view either. Let's take this as a chunk and enjoy it together. Okay,

so Psalm 23. Look at verse number one. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. So we know that David was a shepherd.

Not just a shepherd in his young life, although certainly he was, and much of what he learned about what a shepherd was and what a shepherd should be.
