A little bit of good news for skiers.

About 20 miles of Highway 2 partially reopened this morning east of Stevens Pass, providing a restored connection to the ski resort from the east. Julie Meredith is Washington's Transportation Secretary. She says the change includes a pilot car that will guide drivers the last several miles to the summit.

People, she says, should be prepared for wintry conditions.

Drivers should follow the posted speed limit and the pilot car.

Adjust your speeds accordingly.

Adjust your following distance as necessary.

Expect delays and plan that extra travel time.

And this is winter.

So be winter ready with a full tank of gas and your emergency kits.

The pilot car is operating for 30 days from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As for when access to Stevens Pass from the West via Highway 2 might be restored,

officials say they expect to know more about that tomorrow.
