In this video, we're going to move away from talking about the problem to focusing on solutions.

And we're going to start by talking about macro solutions.

Now, I'm not going to pretend like I have all the answers to solving this incredibly big problem.

But I think together we can all brainstorm some macro solutions. I'm going to give you my ideas,

and then I will show you later on where you can look and see where everybody else has been posting

their ideas for solving this systemic problem. So first of all, we need to address the pillar

of internalized oppression wherever you are in the hierarchy.

If you have been subordinate to someone else, there is some aspect of healing and mourning.

If you've experienced trauma, if you felt oppressed, now this may not apply to you if you've been in a position of power.

But if you have been in a subordinate position and you have been affected by that,

then healing and mourning is an important step in addressing your internalized oppression.

Also supporting one another and recognizing horizontal violence and squelching it,

just not tolerating any kind of backstabbing, gossiping, talking down about other professions.

And then finally, love. There's a lot of hurting people in the maternity care system.

And I don't mean love in the passive sense, but I mean love in an active sense in terms of

loving your fellow human beings and humanizing all of your people in your group and people

that are not in your group. Next, we need to address the oppressive factors. And I don't think

that we all need to address all of these oppressive factors. I think individually, you can

pick one or maybe two to make it your mission to work on. And these include the individuals, institutions, cultural factors,

and love. With individuals, you can use the peer model of communication. This is something that we

learn in interprofessional classes where I used to teach interprofessional training. That means

when you're talking with other professions, you can use plain language,
