| 0:56.3 | I'm glad that I'm introducing it to you. Many of you may already be very familiar with it. |
| 1:01.7 | Intersectionality was introduced by an American feminist legal scholar and civil rights advocate |
| 1:07.2 | Kimberly Williams Crenshaw. She defined intersectionality as overlapping or intersecting |
| 1:13.9 | systems of oppression, domination, or discrimination. Any quality in any area of life can occur |
| 1:22.6 | on a multi-dimensional basis. Usually we just focus on one part of injustice or a hierarchy. |
| 1:30.3 | However, the intersections often go overlooked. |
| 1:34.3 | And when you think about intersection nine, you can think about someone who is a midwife. |
| 1:39.3 | They're at the bottom of the hierarchy. They may also be a woman, and so they face sexism. |
| 1:46.2 | And they may also be black facing racism, a system of built-in injustice as well as personal |
