Hi everyone, in this video, we're going to talk about interprofessional education.

0:05.1

And by the end of this video, you'll be able to discuss the basic principles underlying

0:09.9

interprofessional education and interprofessional collaboration.

0:15.2

So I'm going to show you a few pictures of bridges. And the reason I'm thinking of bridges

0:18.9

when we talk about interprofessional care is we have a lot

0:22.1

of gaps going on. We have a lot of chasms such as the gap between evidence and practice. We also have

0:29.7

gaps between the different professions where we have such different worldviews between the different

0:34.9

professions and yet we're all caring for the same women so

0:38.1

how can we bridge that gap well there's lots of different ways and bridges don't have to be

0:43.0

fancy this is a bridge at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky and that's one of my friends who were

0:47.8

out hiking one day there and it's a simple bridge but it does the job it it bridges that gap over the chasm there. And here's another

1:10.3

long time ago, and it spans a big gap

1:13.3

and its job is to get trains from one side to the other. So thinking about how can we bridge

1:18.9

these gaps. And this is another beautiful bridge that I found and I just think a lot about how we

1:25.3

are trying to connect different parties, different professions

1:30.3

that really don't know how to connect with one another. So how can we do that? Well, one of the

1:35.9

main ways we can bridge this gap is through interprofessional education or IPE. IPE is defined

1:43.3

as when members or students of two or more health-related professions

1:47.1

engage in learning with, from, and about each other.

1:51.5

By its very definition, this is interactive learning.
