And in today's episode, y'all, we are wrapping up part two of our discussion on modesty on being silent in the church on submissiveness, all those things that we read about in last week's episode in first Timothy chapter two versus nine through 12. So I need to stop y'all real quick.

If you have not listened to part one, if you haven't yet, you need to, you need to pause this one, you need to go listen to that one, cue part two afterwards, because if you don't listen to that one, you are going to miss be missing out on all of the context that you will need for our continuation of dissecting this verse specifically versus 11 and 12 today.

You know, we talk about the culture, the contents, the context for first Timothy and everything that we are reading. So go back, listen to part one, then come back here for part two. And yeah, sweet. I'm so glad that you came back. Let's recap last week's episode and continue on with this discussion. So the book of first Timothy was written by Paul to Timothy who was pastoring the church of Ephesus.

Ephesus's culture at the time was one of idle worship to the goddess Artemis. And in that culture, the women were seen as these having mythical ties to the Amazonian women who were able to be these mediators to the goddess Artemis.

The goddess Artemis herself. So men through sexual rituals and also the women through these sexual rituals would be able to so forth, you know, connect with Artemis and get divine knowledge and wisdom and all this stuff.

The women also would you serve this spiritual authority over the men, they would boast in the fact that, you know, the Amazonians slaved and slaved the men to build the city of Ephesus for them.

And they just acted in a manner of seductuousness in their clothing and their speech and their attitude. It was a women's culture that overlooked the leadership of men and lived in sin.

Again, part one goes into crazy detail about all of this and you need to go listen to it. But Paul writes this letter to Timothy who is now shepherding this flock of new Gentile believers who once lived in such a scandalous and rebellious way against the one true God of Israel. Right.

Now that they have come to faith in Christ, however, their congregation needed correction, needed guidance, needed boundaries in place so that there would be healthy theology, a true devotion to God, and that they would live, act and portray a lifestyle of godliness.

That's the heart of first Timothy, godliness, and Paul gets straight to the point with the women of the congregation from that culture on how they needed to behave now that they were in Christ, now that they were called to live a godly life.

He addresses the men as well. We talked about that in last week's episodes who don't think that this is a one-sided rebuke, you know, that this is just toxic masculinity and the patriarchy and all that stuff. No.

What is being said here, if we actually take time to filter everything through the right lens of culture, content and context, we will understand that this is biblical.

If we want to understand, you know, what the then their meant and how it applies to us today, we need to be able to filter these verses through the right lens of culture, content and context.

So in verses 11 and 12, a first Timothy chapter two, this is what Paul continues to say to the congregation of women.

Again, last week we talked about verses 9 and 10. Today it is 11 and 12 and it begins by saying let a woman learn in silence with all submission.

And I do not permit a woman to teach her to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.

Alright, y'all, it's the moment you've been waiting for. From this point on, I'm going to shut my mouth and just not talk her to each.

Just kidding. Okay, we need context. If I had a dollar for every time an individual brought this verse up to me and told me that, you know, what I'm doing in ministry, I shouldn't be doing mind you, I primarily preach and teach to women.

I would almost have as much wealth as Solomon, y'all, I literally uploaded a YouTube video the other day about a week ago talking about how I sermon prep and teach and even like how I prepare for these podcasts, what all goes into it.
