trendy topic today? We're going to be talking about modesty. We're going to be talking about that one scripture where it talks about how women should be silent in the church. Right? I feel like over the past month or so modesty and women's roles have been a huge topic of interest both in and outside of the church. You know, what like what is its purpose in in terms of the scriptures? We're going to be referencing today. You know, is it relevant? Is it retired? Does it promote a talk

2:33.7

that that whole passage that even mentions about women women being silent in the church. And for that reason, there's actually going to be two parts to this specific topic. So you're listening to part one right now. But part two will go live next week. And that will be on submission in silence. But I need you to listen to today's episode in order to have a full context as to what Paul is saying. Why Paul wrote this to the church of ethics.

3:03.7

This is into Timothy. We're going to dive into the context of emphasis, the congregation, the culture. All of this is vitally important factors. If we are going to have an informed interpretation of this verse. Now many people, they don't know the contents, they don't know the context, they don't know the culture. And because of that, there are people that have an inaccurate and a harmful view of these passages regarding modesty, regarding women's roles in the church, regarding what it looks like to say.

3:33.7

Submit regarding what it means when it says silence, you know, so please, please, please, please listen to this episode fully as it leads into part two next week. Now what sparked my interest into looking at biblical modesty, what it truly is was two things. The first thing, a friend of mine, we recorded a YouTube video on her channel about modesty her name is Julia Poe.

4:00.7

So that's the first thing that really sparked me of oh my gosh, I want to make a podcast like really talking in depth about this. But the second thing and the thing that actually preceded my first point was a popular Christian artist came out with a song called modesty's hottest and it basically backfired hard, backfired hard on him.

4:24.7

I'm not here to defend the artist. I'm not here to invalidate a person's experience regarding modesty and their negative experiences surrounding modesty. I am not here to talk about that today regarding this individual.

4:39.7

But you know, I'm not going to lie, I feel kind of bad for this guy because what I know was meant to be a funny song.

4:47.7

A little jab at his daughter's growing up like I understand like where he was probably coming from with this. It became this huge ordeal that opened up a conversation as to why so many people think modesty is bad and modesty culture and purity culture and all this stuff.

5:05.7

Now do I think that modesty is good? Yes, it is biblical. Do I believe that it has been spoken about wrongly and pushed on women more than men? Yes, 1 million percent. I think this song kind of made people empathize with these girls because so many have went so many women have have walked through an experience where modesty that narrative was pushed on them and suck in such a destructive way.

5:33.7

That women, I think when they heard that this song came out, they really felt that this was harmful and that's so sad that that is the wounds of this have been brought out instead of what this guy probably originally intended, but I think because of that, now we have room to talk about this conversation where so many people have hurt, have a strong opinion, don't like to talk about this.

6:00.7

I don't know. There has been narratives pushed on so many people regarding modesty for a long time, such as cover up your shoulders. You don't want to make your brother stumble or you have big boobs rather than just wearing a one-piece swimsuit with the youth group when we all swim, you also have to wear a t-shirt on top of it because you're going to make everybody hear lust.

6:23.7

Even if you're wearing shorts that don't touch your fingertips, you look very Rahab-ish, a prostitute. Rahab was a prostitute and it's so sad that this has been something that has been pushed on girls and in a way it has come across as, well, why are you sexualizing me then?

6:44.7

It opens up so many cans of worms and I don't have, I think, time to really dive into each hypothetical situation like I wish I could, but I'm just going to jump straight into Scripture today, you know, the Scripture that we all know and love about this, and we're going to take this conversation from there.

7:07.7

Okay, so no matter what your experience is with this, whether it has been a hard thing for you to walk through or maybe not, I just know that my heart with this conversation is coming from a place of grace, coming from a place of love, coming from a place of empathy, but also coming most importantly from a place of getting down to what Scripture says.

7:32.7

So yeah, first Timothy chapter 2 verses 9 through 10 is what we're going to talk about today. In next week's episode, we're going to talk about verses 11 through 12, but just for the sake of our part 1, we're going to only focus on verses 9 and 10.
