On today's episode, an extinct bird may be coming back thanks to the help of a movie director.

That's coming up on cool stuff.

It was more than 600 years ago that a towering flightless bird vanished from the forest of New Zealand. Now a group of scientists, filmmakers, and Mori researchers are teaming up to

bring it back, gene by gene. The bird in question is the South Island giant moa, or Dynorosus robustus,

a massive herbivore that stood up to 12 feet or 3.6 meters tall and weighed as much as 500 pounds,

or around 225 kilograms. This long neck creature once roamed New Zealand freely, but it was

hunted to extinction by

Polynesian settlers roughly 600 years ago. Now the Texas-based biotech

startup, classo biosciences, you might remember them for their controversial

efforts to de-extinct the woolly mammoth and the dire wolf. Well, they've added the

Moa to its growing revival lists.

And they're not doing it alone.

They are backed by some high-profile investors, one of those being the Lord of the Rings director, Peter Jackson, who, along with his partner Fran Walsh, has personally contributed
