Summary

Warning: This episode discusses body image, disordered eating, and other complex relationships with food and exercise. Please take care while listening.

This is Danielle's first solo episode in over three years. However, the response she's gotten to some more recent episodes in which she gets very vulnerable about body image and the all-consuming aspects of trying to attain a certain physique, made it clear to her that she needed to dig deeper into the topic by herself before tackling the the subject with Adam. Danielle discusses everything from what she was told about her weight growing up, to the numerous diet plans she's tried (and failed), to her biggest fears regarding body acceptance. This episode is raw, emotional, and will most likely be relatable to many who have endured the shame and scrutiny caused by diet culture. What does she want Adam (and so many partners) to understand? How does she want to live her life from this point forward? What struggles have exhausted her emotionally and physically? It's all in this episode. Listen, and then send it to someone else who might need a little more self-love and to feel less alone.

Hey everybody, welcome to Marriage and Martyrs.

0:29.9

This feels really weird. I've of course recorded myself before for intros and one

0:39.9

time I did an Instagram episode way back in 2018 or something. I did a

0:45.9

a build your Instagram episode, which I actually think was pretty good. But this

0:51.4

is definitely different. First of all, it's been a long time. It's now 2022 and

0:57.6

first of all, I love recording with Adam, right? He's like he's my partner. He's

1:04.4

my sounding board. He's the one who, you know, gives me confidence and makes me

1:10.4

feel like what I'm saying isn't crazy or ridiculous or boring. So I don't know

1:21.8

how people do this, this whole solo thing, right? Like, well, I don't know who's

1:27.0

giving you confidence yourself. God, that's so weird. But this issue is one

1:34.6

that comes up time and time again in our podcasts. And I get feedback all the

1:40.1

time from people who say, thank you for talking about it. Or, you know, I feel

1:45.2

the same way. I've never heard someone say this before you did. And I also get

1:49.5

the other side is what, which is, you know, sometimes we get reviews and stuff

1:53.1

that says, Daniel, just bitches about her body. And if she doesn't like it, she's

1:56.3

just change it. But mostly it's really been a, a really comforting thing, which

2:08.0

sounds strange to know that so many of us are feeling like we struggle so much

2:16.6

with this issue. But yet, we also are at a, it was kind of really big crossroads

2:22.2

where we know that it doesn't have to be like this, right? That we're all kind

2:26.8

of figuring out either by getting a little bit older or wiser or more mature,

2:33.4

having families, you know, being around people who already have realized

2:40.8

this, that that size of your body and that, you know, diets and the fitness
