0:08.5	in Idaho right now. We're going to cover everything you need to know about the James Craig trial
0:13.7	after following along on WebEx as media. And let me tell you, there's a lot to cover. Karen Kane took the stand today.

0:29.4	That happened today. And honestly, it was sad when she took the stand, but we will get to that.

0:46.6	The first up on the stand was Dr. Mark Simon. Dr. Simon is no ordinary ER doctor. He's trained in both emergency medicine and toxicology.
0:58.4	And in March of 2023, he was working at the University of Colorado Hospital and also doing
1:04.1	a toxicology fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Poison Center, one of the leading places for
1:09.1	poison research and response. He explained that toxicology
1:12.7	is the study of how substances, anything from over-the-counter meds to full-blown poisons, affect the human
1:18.3	body. And Dr. Simon knows that filled well. In 2023, he was in his first year fellowship, and
1:26.6	part of his job was handling calls to poison control.
1:29.5	He explained that whenever anyone calls poison control, that call gets routed to the nearest center.
1:35.4	And there, a poison specialist usually picks up, but if things seem especially serious or complicated, they call in the doctor, like Dr. Simon.
1:46.3	Dr. Simon testified that hospitals don't just wait around for someone to call poison control, though. They have direct lines to
1:51.5	medical toxicologists, and on March 15th, 2023, one of those calls went straight to him.
1:58.1	That day, he was working from home, taking poison control calls like usual, and one call
2:02.8	was about a patient named Angela Craig. The situation was serious enough that Dr. Simon did not
2:09.4	stay on the phone. He went straight into the hospital. When he arrived that afternoon,
2:15.1	Angela was already in the ICU. She was on a ventilator, completely unresponsive.
