Serenity Denard never had that dream childhood that everyone imagines for their children.

She was the fourth child to her biological mother but the only one that she had

custody of. The previous three had been adopted into a loving family together before she ever

got pregnant with Serenity. During her pregnancy though she really seemed to be getting her life

together and according to the vanish podcast when Serenity was born she tested negative for drugs.

Unfortunately things didn't continue to look up as much as everyone once thought they might.

One day when Serenity was two years old her mother was sent to prison and she was left with her

father. Eventually he too got in trouble with the law and wound up going to weekend jail and

working throughout the week. He enlisted his mother for help in raising his daughter but she was

schizophrenic and had an episode where she called the police convinced that someone was coming after

Serenity. CPS got involved and even though her extended family of cousins and aunts across

multiple states wanted to take her in instead she was placed into the foster care system.

Within two years of being in the system Serenity lived in more than 12 different foster homes.

That's an average of one home every two months. By the time she was four both of her biological

parents' rights were legally terminated and she was put up for adoption but it wouldn't take long.
