Summary

In this episode, it was a pleasure to chat with business legend Jeff Mask. After growing a software company from $2,000,000 to over $100,000,000 in valuation, and carving out a career as one of the world's most successful investors and acquisitions experts, Jeff turned his attention towards helping high-performance executives to achieve incredible results.

After watching his wife and son hover between life and death, and then beating a cancer diagnosis, there have certain events that have undoubtedly changed the trajectory of Jeff’s life. His story is one of resilience, willpower and strength, which he has used to build four founding principles that he refers to as the "foundational pillars of life" - mindset, action, spirituality and kindness. In this remarkable conversation, we talk about the ways in which we can harness these attributes to overcome the challenges, correct our course in life, and achieve outstanding success.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Often the most valuable lessons in life are taught to us during the greatest of challenges. In Jeff's case, he was forced to face the reality of life alone during a critical medical emergency, but this shock helped him to gain a new perspective on life, and follow a different path.
  • Legacies are what we create when we take back control and realise that our contributions to the world really matter. We can follow a passive course, or we can choose to make a difference.
  • Success should never be marked by the amount of money we have in the bank. True wealth comes from our level of fulfilment in life, and this often comes through the relationships we build and the kindness we engender.
  • If you have something the world needs, you have a mission. If you have something you love, that's a vocation. If you have something you're paid for, you're good at, but you don't necessarily love, then you have a profession. If you have something you're good at and that the world needs, then this is a passion. When you put all four together, this is a purpose.

BEST MOMENTS

'Now when anything frustrating happens, it's not a big deal because I remember the feeling of loneliness and darkness'

'I wanted to be part of a bigger purpose'

'That's where miracles are created - on the other side of fear'

'There is success that we define by wealth, esteem and status, and then there's success of true peace and happiness and joy that's enduring and sustainable'

I'm joined by the fabulous Jeff Mask. Now Jeff is an international speaker. He's an investor CEO

0:05.5

coach to 7A and 9 figure business owners. A lot of names in there that you would recognise,

0:10.9

by the way, some of the brightest minds from across the world. He's helped scale businesses from

0:15.2

2 million right up to 100 million. He's got a top ranking global MBA, but the thing that he

0:21.3

prides himself on the most is his 22-year marriage and his four awesome children, which I just think

0:26.5

is a real reflection of them and so welcome, Joe. Thank you. That was that was kind and

0:31.6

totally true. I definitely care most about my marriage and my kids and that's the hardest and

0:38.0

the most fulfilling work for me and everything else is secondary for sure. Well, let's start with

0:44.0

that because I've got to admit, I'm always a bit awestruck. I'm a mother of three. I've got three

0:48.8

young children, four, five and nine. Absolutely love them to bits, but I also know how intense that

0:54.6

can be. So I've just got the utmost respect for anyone that's got more children than I do.

1:00.7

Yeah, it is, it is no joke and can be the most difficult process and experience in the world.

1:08.9

We have four and they were six and under at the time when we had four and so many diapers and so

1:18.2

much. Actually, you don't call them diapers. They're what do you call them? Nappy's? Nappy's.

1:22.7

Yeah, so many nappy's and so much just chaos. My wife and I always marvel. Those days were

1:30.2

physically exhausting. Now that we have teenagers, they're emotionally exhausting and every stage is

1:35.9

a little bit different, but what I found is every stage is miraculous. Let me share a quick

1:42.6

story as to why I love it so much. As a kid, I always wanted to be a dad. I love kids and

1:50.9

I have an urgent side to me and so being a dad was going to be fun. I was scared, of course,

1:55.4

as most men are, but I was excited. Well, come to the birth of my oldest son who's now 19

2:03.3

when it came to close the time my wife started presenting with a lot of bizarre pains.

2:09.9

Long story short, she had a blood clot from her hip all the way down to her ankle.
