Summary

Miracle vs Miracle Worker: John 6:1–35: Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this episode, Rachael Groll explores how easy it is to chase what God can do for us instead of simply wanting Him. Looking at John 6:36–59, she unpacks why Jesus calls Himself the Bread of Life and what that means for our faith today. Rather than focusing on miracles or quick answers, Rachael helps listeners refocus their hearts on the miracle worker Himself: inviting them to pause, reflect, and ask, “Am I seeking His hand, or His heart?” ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆ This podcast devotional is a companion to Knowing God’s Voice, Grab Your Printed Copy Here! ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here: ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? Sometimes we forget about the miracle worker. This passage invites us to wrestle with that question. We should shift our focus from what he can give us to who he is. Understanding the identity of the miracle worker is crucial. Focusing on gifts can distract us from the giver. Wrestling with questions is part of faith. The identity of the miracle worker is more important than the miracles. Miracles can captivate but should not define our faith. Faith is about relationship, not just gifts. ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesusBible, Bible Study, Devotions, Devotional, Daily Devotional, Prayer, Jesus, God, Holy Spirit, Spiritual Growth, hearing God’s voice, Hearing God, Hearing Jesus, Praying, Pray, God’s Word, Scriptures Hearing Jesus, Knowing God's Voice, Female Prophets, Bible Study, Spiritual Growth, Christian Podcast, Faith Journey, Obedience, God's Communication, Personal Reflections, prophecy, faith, surrender, spiritual gifts, women's ministry, Christian podcast Learn more about your ad choices. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:11.8

I think most of us have had moments in our lives where it felt like we were doing all the right things that we knew to do, going to church, reading your Bible, maybe even witnessing

0:22.5

the way that God was moving in your life. But yet, you feel stuck somehow spiritually,

0:29.9

like you're not growing. I think sometimes the problem isn't about what you're seeing,

0:35.6

but what we're believing. Well, in today's passage of

0:39.6

John, we're moving into John chapter 6, where Jesus is speaking to a crowd that had seen him

0:45.0

multiply food and walk on water, these amazing miracles. They literally had front row seats to his

0:51.2

power. But instead of growing in faith, their hearts were still full of

0:57.6

questions, and sometimes they were making demands of him. They wanted more signs. They wanted more

1:02.5

proof. Jesus doesn't back down, but he does shift the conversation to something that isn't physical but spiritual. And so if you've ever

1:14.7

felt spiritually hungry but unsure of how to get that need met, then this episode is for you.

1:22.2

I'm going to walk through John chapter 6 and Jesus is going to unpack what some of this means. Let's get started.

1:32.1

Starting at verse 1. Sometime after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee,

1:39.9

that is the Sea of Tiberius, and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the

1:44.6

signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with

1:50.5

his disciples. The Jewish Passover festival was near. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd

1:57.1

coming toward him, he said to Philip, where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?

2:02.1

He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.

2:07.3

Philip answered him, it would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite.

2:13.5

Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. Here's a boy with five small

2:20.7

barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many? Jesus said, have the people

2:28.3

sit down. There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down. About 5,000 men were there. Jesus then
