I mean, yes, of course, most books are anchored in human relationships, but this collection

I'm going to share today definitely had me thinking about the complexities between people,

especially amidst friction. Reading for sure feels challenging at times, but also more

essential than ever to avoid doom scrolling. And if you need some inspiration to find your

reading mojo, check out my recent conversation with Tracy Thomas. It is just so wonderful and so

fun. She is a gem. Okay, on to my picks. The first is, with an ironic

title, How to Read a Book by Monica Wood. This is a beautiful story of friendship and forgiveness

centered on the intersection of three characters. First, a young woman named Violet,

who accidentally kills a woman in a car accident.

Second, a prison volunteer named Harriet who runs a book club at the prison.

And third, the husband of the woman Violet killed.

His name is Frank, and he is a handyman at a local bookstore that Harriet frequents.

There were a number of interesting threads throughout this book. After prison, Violet finds

employment at a bird lab, and that angle was nostalgic for me, given that in grad school,

I was right down the hall from the bird labs. I also felt many complex feelings about men,
