Instead, the meeting ended up in a bust-up between Zelensky, Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

Last night, a deal was finally signed, though with rather less van fare, and amid a Russian drone strike on Odessa.

After months of Trump blowing hot and cold, the agreement signals that America is prepared

to stand by Ukraine, as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said.

Today's agreement signals clearly to Russian leadership that the Trump administration is committed

to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign and prosperous Ukraine over the long term.

The question now is whether peace is really any closer.
