Summary

One of the fastest ways to tap the relaxation response is to tune into our senses. It immerses us in the present moment, offering a break from our worries, and gives us the space to simply be. It's available to us anywhere, anytime, and it only takes a minute. You can do it for longer, but even a brief pause is beneficial. In this 9 minute episode, I share some of my favorite ways to tune into the senses.

Today, I have a mindset minisode for you, so let's dive right in.

Okay. Hey friends. So today's episode is all about tuning into our senses. It's something we were all really good at when we were small children. And if you spend time with small children, they experience the world as a wondrous place, and they are very much in the present moment. Tapping into our

senses takes us out of our head, out of our worries, gives us a minute to simply be, and it's

0:50.6

available to us anytime and anywhere. And you can do it for longer, by the way,

0:56.9

1:03.6

feel your body shift from a stressful response where you're carrying some tension to a more

1:09.6

relaxed response where you can feel the relaxation start to kick in.

And I'm going to share some of my favorite ways to do this, one exercise for each sense.

And I do realize that some listeners might have sense impairments in one of the five senses or more,

1:26.9

but we're going to cover all five,

1:28.5

so there's something for everyone today. So the first one I want to start with is the sense of sight

1:34.4

and a technique that's in my book, Healing Mindset, is called Light and Shadow. It's my favorite way

1:41.4

to tune into the present moment with sight. It's very simple.

1:45.3

Just look around you and notice the art that light is creating all around you that you just

1:52.2

don't notice on a regular basis.

So right now, as I'm recording this, I'm in my office at home, and I have a ceramic pink

lamp, and the light falls on the base in a wide variety

2:04.3

of these glimmering white abstract shapes. It's really quite beautiful. I also have a window in my

2:12.3

office and during the day the light comes through the window. It shimmers on certain parts of the wood floor, depending

2:19.0

on the angle of the sun, and it can also make my white curtain that frames the window glow

2:24.6

if it's a bright, sunny day. And then one thing I'm noticing right now, I'm recording this
