circles, chess is now known as a sport. Millions of viewers are lining up to watch a new generation of Grandmasters play games on Twitch, a gamer streaming channel, better known for video game tournaments. Lockdowns have changed our habits in many ways, and one is this. Stuck inside, we're looking for new things to watch, new challenges to take on, new things to learn.

As a result, quoting here, a boom is taking place in chess like we have never seen,

maybe since the Bobby Fisher days. So says chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley, talking with CBS News.

And a boom is right. Viewers watched more than 40 million hours of chess on Twitch from March through August.

40 million hours. That's according to an analytics website called Sully Nome, reported by the New York Times.
