| 0:57.0 | Yeah, so 72% of the Commonwealth's voters went out last November in the election season and |
| 1:05.6 | voted for an audit of our state legislature. Now, this is something that actually had already occurred |
| 1:12.4 | to the tune of over 100 audits of the state legislature by the Office of State Auditor |
| 1:17.1 | throughout history. Since the inception of the auditor's office, the legislature was always audited. |
| 1:22.2 | But back in the 1990s, there was a fight, so to speak, between former auditor Joe Danucci and the Speaker of the |
| 1:29.3 | House at the time, who essentially said, you're not going to audit me anymore. And former |
| 1:34.8 | auditor Joe Danucci pushed back and said, what are you talking about? This is what our office does. |
| 1:40.1 | We've always conducted audits of the state legislature. But the speaker had so much power that the |
| 1:45.1 | audits stopped happening. And former auditor Danucci did push back, did go to the attorney general's |
| 1:50.6 | office, also filed legislation to try to reinforce and make explicit in law that he had the authority |
| 1:58.2 | to do his job and audit the state legislature. |
| 2:05.4 | But unfortunately, as you know, Speaker of the House determines what bills pass and what bills don't pass. |
