Welcome back to the show. My name is Mike Urban, filling in for Grace today again. And I have a pretty special guest with me today. We're going to have a very productive

day today. I'm sitting across from our state auditor, Diana DeZoclio. Diana, how are you? I'm doing

great. Great to be here. Thanks so much for having me, Mike. So first of all, why don't you give us

some of the most updated information most people are wondering about is the audit?

Yeah, so 72% of the Commonwealth's voters went out last November in the election season and

voted for an audit of our state legislature. Now, this is something that actually had already occurred

to the tune of over 100 audits of the state legislature by the Office of State Auditor

throughout history. Since the inception of the auditor's office, the legislature was always audited.

But back in the 1990s, there was a fight, so to speak, between former auditor Joe Danucci and the Speaker of the

House at the time, who essentially said, you're not going to audit me anymore. And former

auditor Joe Danucci pushed back and said, what are you talking about? This is what our office does.

We've always conducted audits of the state legislature. But the speaker had so much power that the

audits stopped happening. And former auditor Danucci did push back, did go to the attorney general's

office, also filed legislation to try to reinforce and make explicit in law that he had the authority

to do his job and audit the state legislature.

But unfortunately, as you know, Speaker of the House determines what bills pass and what bills don't pass.

So the bill died in committee, never saw the light a day.
