Hey everyone, it's Boomer and Gio, and if you're into New York sports or you want straight talk about what's really going on in the sports world, Boomer and Geo is your show. We're covering it all. Yankees wins, Giants drama, national headlines, and whatever chaos the day brings on the field and all. No filler, no filters, just real conversation. And believe me, plenty of laughs every weekday morning. We don't hold back and we don't waste your time.

0:22.8

We get to what actually matters.

0:24.5

That's boomer and geo, and you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your pods. Pete Abraham covers them for the Boston Globe. Pete, welcome. How are you? Michael, how are you? Good. And number one, we know that, well, let's do the headline.

0:38.8

Before I get the bet's not going into the infield.

0:42.7

How surprising is it national media-wise, considering the marquee value, how bad the ratings have

0:51.6

been for the World Series?

0:53.3

Well, yeah, I think that is surprising. Dodgers, Red Sox, two classic teams, two big markets, two very good teams, especially the Red Sox. Yeah, I am surprised. I kind of wonder if it's the length of the games or the start times, but Major League Baseball said the other day, with Rob Manfred was a Funway that they feel like this is the most opportune time to have the game. Yeah, I don't know. You know, if a son, now I always think, Pete, and you know this from being down here that when you have a year where the Yankees are in the postseason and they lose, the city shuts off. People get depressed. They don't want to think about baseball anymore. They want to be removed from it.

1:28.5

So I always think there's not a lot of talk on the show when the yanks are eliminated.

1:33.1

So maybe that's a little of that this year.

1:36.1

But I'm shocked how little the conversation has been about this World Series.

1:41.3

I mean, even leading up to it, at least in our town.

1:44.0

Now, obviously, it's not that way in the two towns, but, you know, L.A. can shut off really fast, as we know. And the question is, how quick does that city disconnect if the Dodgers just don't get a fast thought tonight, you know? Yeah, it's interesting. I mean, the Dodgers have a nice comeback in the NLCS after going down and you know coming back winning game seven uh they've you know they've been a facility team with a bunch of star players and clayton kershart everything else i would think this would be an interesting team but yeah you're right i do wonder not to lose in the first of the games of the series if they go on tonight i'm sure that's going to shut down a lot of their interest and and it's been kind of by rote. Really, the Red Sox get every two out hit. They make every catch in the outfield. I mean, they do everything. They make every play. And then Avaldi, I mean, did you know, Pete, did you got any inkling that he was going to use Avaldi in that fashion in the series? Yeah, we did.

2:34.9

When they made the trade forum in July, they talked about why they didn't make a move for a reliever. And the whole time they said, we feel like Avaldi, somebody can help us in relief come the postseason, which, you know, obviously a lot of teams do that. They put their starters in the bullpen. They might get an inning or two out of them. And a lot of people were critical of Dumbrovsky for not going out and getting a relief pitcher at the deadline.

2:54.9

They were really the only contending team that didn't do that. But of all he has been essentially that guy. They put him in the eighth inning to get the bridge to Kimbril and he's done a great job. I think he's put one guy on base and board games and struck you have the strikeouts.

3:07.7

He's done everything he's had to do.

3:09.0

So he's really kind of been base and four games and struck, you know, had the strikeouts.

3:07.6

He's done everything he's had to do.

3:09.0

So he's really kind of been, there's Zach Britton, you know, their guy to kind of get that, get them to the closer.

3:14.8

We're talking with Pete Abraham and Boston Globe about tonight's game three.

3:18.3

Just to give people an idea, last year, game one, 87, this year, 8,2. Last year, game 292, this year 81.

3:28.3

So both games lower rated than last year, and this is Dodgers and Red Sox, which is

3:33.9

very surprising.
