Is depression funny? Depression is funny to me sometimes because I'll watch other happy people.

I start laughing about my own stuff and I'm like, why am I sad? What's wrong with me?

Mike Brown is a comedian who's lived in New York all his life.

I've spent a lot of time reading about Mike, reading stuff he wrote, watching videos of him performing,

and talking to him. And what I came away with is that there are two events that define Mike more than

any others. One event he uses in his comedy, the other he does not.

The first happened when he was around 13 and he moved from his mom's place in Queens to live with his

dad for the first time in his life in Harlem. Moving to Harlem was kind of a scary thing. My mom,

she just got married. She just got remarried to a new dude and he's great. He was great by the way.

So she just got remarried and she's like, okay, there's not a lot of schools and Queens where I was

living that would have opportunities. And there's a school called Frederick Douglass Academy that looks
