Summary

This week is packed with tons of information on Michigans turkey history. Al is the upland bird species specialist for the DNR. He has just reached a mile stone of working for the department of nature resources for 50 years. Al dives deep into the culture of the wild turkey and how at one point Michigan went from zero turkeys on the landscape to over 200,000 in just over a few decades. He describes the process the state took to recover these birds, and the multiple funding issues along the way. We discuss the wild animal trade deal the state did with other states on trading grouse and prairie chickens for wild turkeys.  There is tons of information in the episode so get your notebooks ready, you’re going to need them!   Michigan Sportsman is Powered by Simplecast Learn more about your ad choices.
